Project Brief

The MDes Design Innovation programmes in The School of Innovation and Technology at GSA have an intense and purposeful interactive engagement with the context of creative production, embracing and caring for its multi-layered complexity, and being aware of the ethical, social, technological and environmental impact of anyhuman activity. This often manifests itself in services, products, experiences and environments that are
imagined in a purposeful way with an emphasis on equality, diversity and inclusion.


In this project we would like you to explore your surroundings. In your groups you are assigned a particular
place or space as your base context. This place or space has a distinct purpose. You are tasked with making this purpose and the associated surroundings or a particular element therein more accessible and inclusive.

Mackintosh At The Willow

Mackintosh at the Willow (the Original Willow Tea Rooms Building) is situated at 215–217 Sauchiehall St, Glasgow, G2 3EX. This A-listed building was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and is his last surviving tea rooms, originally opened in 1903.

Desk Research

I went through a lot of existing literature of inclusivity in spaces similar to the tea room to understand how to define inclusivity in the tea room.

Mapping

We had a lot of data throughout this project, and synthesising all of this data to make sense was one of the main processes throughout the 3 weeks of the project.

To make outstanding UX work, it still needs polished visual design in which I excel as well.

We were working with a partner to understand how the space works, who is involved in this organisation etc. We were also working as a group of 5 which was made easy since we had defined set of rules for the group.

To work with our partner, we had to respect the time he gave us since he was busy running the organisation himself for which there was an allotted time during the week.

Co-Design

We were shaping and adjusting our engagements based on Oliver's feedback. His valuable insights enabled us to define our artifacts in alignment with the needs of our research question, which, in turn, allowed Oliver to lead his team with greater inclusivity.
